Bespoke

Best of Bespoke

As you know, Bespoke is at the heart of what we do here at The North American Guitar, so I wanted to take a minute to show you a few of our Bespoke highlights from 2021.

We've worked closely with the world's finest luthiers, and our dear customers to spec, design and execute the creation of their dream guitars, and there are a few examples of these below. Enjoy!

If you have any questions about the builds below, or would like to start your own build, please reach out to me on annie@thenorthamericanguitar.com or any sales person here at TNAG.

Astrand Å-SJ

To kick this off, we recently delivered an Åstrand Å-SJ to a TNAG Bespoke customer. This guitar is an Å-SJ, the largest model offered by Ted, featuring a gorgeous set of African Blackwood for the back and sides and a Torrefied Adirondack Spruce top. As always, Ted's craftsmanship went above and beyond. He combined his sophisticated, refined aesthetic with the desires of the customer, featuring a subtle celtic inlay on the fretboard an a striking headstock overlay. Thus far all of the Astrand guitars we have commissioned via TNAG have featured either Swiss or European Spruce, but this specific customer desired the warmth that Torrefied Adirondack Spruce provides and it was a real treat to see Ted execute this, and this guitar come to life.

Stephen Strahm 00

The next on our highlight reel is this Stephen Strahm 00 in Brazilian & Adirondack. Crafted to complement his OM-inspired EROS model, Stephen's 12-fret 00 is a delightful smaller-bodied guitar with a surprising depth of tone. Balanced and even, it sings in the lower registers, serving up nuanced and rich accompaniment for vocals. But as you'd expect from Brazilian rosewood, the high end is pure and clear, without a hint of brashness and was exactly what it's new owner was after.

Turnstone TM

Next up is this stunning Turnstone TM in Brazilian Mahogany & Swiss Moon. The TM models sports a defined, articulate tone and a very comfortable size for many hours of play. On this model, Rosie combined some top-class tonewoods, including a Swiss moon spruce soundboard and Brazilian back and sides. Thanks in part to the active X brace back structure, that is synonymous with all Turnstones, this guitar has some killer overtones, and sustain to match. Golden hues echo across this build, from the Brazilian Mahogany to the Koa of the Rosette which were only highlighted by the satin finish opted for by the customer.

Spohn MDC

Then onto this Spohn MDC in Madagascan Rosewood & Swiss Spruce. We're consistently blown away with the instruments that young luthier Max Spohn is creating, and the quality to which he builds. The bespoke element of this order allowed Max to get creative with the design (check out the facing on the back of the headstock). Keeping it elegant, yet unique is something that Max executes perfectly. The tonal complexity of Madagascan rosewood makes for a diverse guitar, with beautiful, lush overtones and of course, a very happy customer!

Gerber RL15.5

We're always stunned by any instrument that leaves the Gerber workshop, and it's very much the same when it comes to this Bespoke order which recently arrived at it's new home. This commision is a Gerber RL15.5 featuring Figured Walnut & Swiss Moon Spruce. Not too big, and not too small the Gerber RL15.5 is an ideal size for a fingerstyle guitar, which is exactly what this customer was after. The aesthetics of this one speak for itself, simply stunning.

Take a look at the slots we have confirmed with our roster of sensational luthiers, and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to know any more.
