Fairbanks F20-S Nick Lucas Nominated for Acoustic Guitar of the Year
As the end of the year draws closer, we start to see the 'Gear of the Year' awards appear, championing the products that have made more of an impact than others to the press.
We're incredibly proud to have three guitars nominated for three different awards in The Guitar Magazine's annual end of year awards.
The B&G Guitars Little Sister Crossroads is nominated for the best Electric Guitar between £1,000 and £2,000, while the Frank Brothers Signature is nominated for the award for best electric over £2,000.
Perhaps the most notable nomination, however, is for the Fairbanks F20-S Nick Lucas, which has been nominated for Best Acoustic Guitar over £1,000.
Fairbanks Guitars, aka Dale Fairbanks, is a master builder based in Connecticut, USA. He is a self-taught luthier having previously spent a number of years restoring vintage Martins and Gibsons.
Dale operates out of his family's home, balancing his time between creating his masterpieces and spending time with his wife and three children.
Dale's guitars are absolutely wonderful instruments, built to recreate pre-war Gibson and Martin models, ranging from the Robert Johnson-era F10 to the Gibson J-185 inspired F40.
The F20-S model nominated is based on the second Gibson Nick Lucas model, which was an iteration of Gibson's L-00 model, and features Genuine Mahogany back and sides with a Red Spruce top. What sets this model apart from Dale Fairbanks' usual gorgeous sunburst is this Gold Sparkle burst.
In their review of the Fairbanks F20-S Nick Lucas, The Guitar Magazine commended the guitar for its “Superb build quality, big and majestic tone, very impressive bass response and fine playability.” Read the full review here.
