Four New Bunting Guitars Arrive!

Starting out from the imagination of Artist, designer and homegrown luthier Yaniv Loria back in 2013, soon joined by Guy Shapira and his experience in lutherie and electronics, Bunting Guitars have carved out their niche in the world of boutique instruments with a gorgeous mix of unique designs and inspired takes on classic and iconic silhouettes hand built in Tel-Aviv, Israel and all featuring stunning finishing work and versatile tonal palettes with hand-wound pickups and high-end components.

This week has seen a fresh haul of four new magnificent instruments come through the doors of our London Showroom from the wonderful guys at Bunting, and we've got to say we have been blown away by them in every step of the process from unboxing through to plugging them in and putting them through their paces in front of a camera and mic!

Consisting of an elegant Tuxedo Black version of their Melody Queen model, a Summer Sky Blue finished rendition of their Spiro model (their first original design) and an awesome pair of their rock-solid, versatile workhorse Alice EP model guitars in Aged White and Vintage Burst.

On a personal note, two aspects that really caught me when I first opened up the cases of these fantastic instruments was the consistency in their signature, hand-applied oil based finish which really shows off the woods grain and lends itself perfectly to their ageing process, as well as the sheer quality of the woods they use, in particular the eye-catching exquisitely figured Bosnian Maple of the necks.

Here's a closer look at what's come in;

Bunting Melody Queen Electric Guitar, Tuxedo Black - £2,750

Aesthetically poised between classic Fender offset guitars and some of the more offbeat instruments that came out of Japan in the 1970s, this versatile instrument covers a wide range of tones from chimes cleans through to fuzzed out bliss.

With its European Spruce body construction paired with a Bosnian Maple neck and Rosewood fretboard, the guitar boasts a lovely chime and clarity unplugged, with the Frail JM P90 pickups capturing the best of this combination of fine tonewoods.

From a players perspective, Bunting have hit some very tasteful ergonomic points that make the guitar a reliable and solid workhorse in the Duesenberg Tremola Tailpiece and Mastery Bridge that, coupled with the Gotoh locking tuners, provide a very usable and responsive tremolo that holds tune superbly.

The neck profile is comfortable and fast, with Bunting's oil based finish providing a smooth platform to glide across whatever style you're throwing at it. This degree of playability makes it an effortless experience to coax the most out of what the guitar has to offer sonically, aided also by the versatile electronics in the instrument.

Bunting Spiro Electric Guitar, Summer Sky Blue - £2,550

Built to encapsulate the tone and feel of 1950s Jr style guitars, but with an offset body shape that deviates from the much trodden ground of the original, the very versatile Spiro from Bunting Guitars is a rock solid all rounder.

Made from Spanish Cedar for the body with a bolted on Bosnian Maple neck and Rosewood fretboard, this simple yet elegant workhorse really captures the spirit of those golden era P90 equipped rock machines with all the versatility and power that characterised them in tow.

The set of Wolfetone P90 pickups in this guitar cover a whole host of tones with a distinctly vintage voice to them. With heaps of punchy mids, a strong bass response and sparkling, crisp highs, these P90s really sing in a variety of styles and whether clean or dirty will bring out a luscious rich and full tone.

Bunting Alice EP Electric Guitar, Vintage Burst - £2,250

Bunting Alice EP Electric Guitar, White - £2,250

These stunning '50s Jr style electrics capture the vibe and charm of their ancestors with a few tasteful and characterful twists that make them something entirely of their own.

Made up in traditional fashion from Mahogany for the body with a Rosewood fretboard, but deviating in spec with a bolt on Bosnian Maple neck and T-style 3-saddle bridge, the lines between classic and contemporary are certainly blurred as ever with Bunting and the Alice EP a stunning testament to the effectiveness of this crossover.

In regards to playability, I absolutely love a guitar that steers the player towards making the most of the onboard controls, and nothing quite does this like the single P90 format.

With this pickup configuration in tandem with a single volume and single tone control, the guitar is surprisingly versatile and encourages a very interactive approach in all facets of the instrument.

We have two of these fantastic guitars in our showroom at this present moment, one in a gorgeous vintage burst with a tortoiseshell pick guard, the other with a stunning Aged White finish.

  • Body – Mahogany
  • Neck – Bosnian Maple
  • Fingerboard – Rosewood
  • Pickup – P-90 (Wolfetone)
  • Potentiometers – Emerson CTS Pro Master Volume & Tone
  • Capacitor – Emerson Paper-in-oil
  • Bridge – Half T bridge with intonated saddels
  • Tuners – Gotoh open back
  • Body – Our own “raw finish” recipe, oil and shellac base *
  • Neck – Oil finish
  • Scale: 24.5″
  • Fingerboard radius: 10″
  • Nut: Hand cut bone to 43mm width
  • Case: Hiscox hard shell

We are immensely impressed by the workmanship and dedication from Bunting's inventive duo, and seeing these guitars as they journey through to the players that will undoubtedly find a great deal of pleasure and inspiration in them is going to be an absolute treat.
