Going Electric: James Trussart SteelCasters

In this week's Going Electric, Brian is joined once again by our dear friend Ben Smith for a deep dive into a pair of the most quintessentially 'cool' electric guitars in our showroom, the timeless James Trussart SteelCaster models.

Both sharing similar specs in the iconic fully hollow steel body construction and Red Stained Maple Necks, the key differences between the two are the pickups and subtle deluxe appointments to the instrument in Ben's hands.

We're absolutely smitten with these guitars and had a great time playing out on them and putting them through their paces, and discovering just what sets James' Steelcasters so far apart from anything else that's sported this classic silhouette over the years.

This gorgeous instrument is a SteelCaster Deluxe hand built by legendary French Luthier James Trussart out in his Los Angeles Workshop.

Featuring a Hollow Steel body with a bolted on, Red-Stained Maple neck and Pau Ferro Fretboard, the Deluxe is one of James' most iconic guitars and feels like just about nothing else.

The pickup combination in this instrument yields everything from classic T-Style twang and snap in the bridge through to smooth, creamy tones in the neck with the articulation and range of the UltraTron blending seamlessly with the cutting midrange of the Bridge in unison.

James Trussart SteelCaster, Rust O'Matic - £SOLD

This extraordinary instrument is a SteelCaster electric guitar hand built by legendary French Luthier James Trussart out in his Los Angeles Workshop.

The guitar marries a Hollow Steel body with a vintage profiled, red stained Maple neck topped with a gorgeous Pau Ferro fingerboard. The pickups in this instance are a combination of the traditional Arcane Inc. Single Coil in the bridge position and a Gold Foil in the neck.

The Hollow Steel body offers a resonance and feel unlike anything else, with touch sensitive response and truly inspiring acoustic qualities that translate beautifully into the amplified tone. The '62 neck carve makes for an effortless playing experience all across the registers of the guitar.

The pickup combination yields classic T-Style twang and bite in the bridge position, with the Gold Foil pickup in the neck position emanating a monumental dynamic range with crystal clear clarity and definition whether running into a clean or driven amplifier.
