Here's what you missed in TNAG Exchange this week
Randy Lucas spent years studying the greatest pre-war offerings from Martin and Gibson, and now crafts beautiful instruments inspired by those guitars. This excellent pre-owned example features an Adirondack spruce top with herringbone purfling, stunning dark Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and an ebony fingerboard.
This guitar is a bluegrasser's dream, with a wonderfully responsive top suited perfectly to lightning-fast flat picking. It has gorgeous overtones, and the huge tone one would expect from a Brazilian dreadnought. This LD-28 is as close as it gets to a pre-war Martin, and comes with a Calton case.
The Collings I-35 Deluxe is Collings' approach to a premium all-solid wood constructed semi-hollow guitar. From clean jazz tones to more overdriven blues tones, an array of sounds can be had from the ThroBak humbuckers. If you're on the market for a dual-humbucker semi-hollow guitar with some major upgrades, this is a fine example. This pre-owned 2019 model is in excellent condition, and also features an upgraded quilted maple top and ThroBak 101 Plus humbuckers in place of the standard Lollars.
In 2008, master builder Stephen Stern crafted the Gretsch G6120 Chet Atkins 125th Anniversary model to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Gretsch’s founding. Being one of only 25, this G6120 is truly something to behold. Loosely based on the renowned 6120-1959LTV, the 125th Anniversary model features a transparent western orange lacquer over real gold leaf.
Matched with its gold plated hardware, this G6120 is a truly elegant instrument. The TV Jones Classic pickups dish out the legendary rockabilly sound Gretsch is known for. When paired with its B6CG V-cut Bigsby trem, one is able to coax a plethora of timeless tones out of this instrument. For players and collectors alike, this Gretsch G6120 Chet Atkins 125th Anniversary is nothing short of spectacular.
