We're so excited to have our first two guitars in build with the incredible Theunis of Theunis Fick Guitars.
From Cape Town, South Africa, Theunis Fick is building some of the most progressive acoustic guitars in the world, blending science, mechanics and modernism. With a degree in civil engineering, and having studied guitar building through The Casimi School of Lutherie in South Africa, and the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair in Michigan, USA, Theunis completed an apprenticeship with Casimi Guitars before setting up his own custom shop.
We've currently got two guitars in build. The first a model 2, a medium-size. modern acoustic guitar with a 12 fret join, featuring Fenland Black Oak (also known as Bog Oak) for the back & sides and European Spruce for the top. The second of these builds is Theunis' Model 3, a larger instrument, comparable to the traditional dreadnought. This guitar will feature Sapele for the back & sides, paired with a European Spruce top.
From Theunis Fick's Guitars, we can expect tonally rich, responsive guitars with great playability and pitchy accuracy. Aesthetically his designs are beautiful, intricate, distinguishable to his brand.
Theunis kindly sent us some photographs of these builds, take a look at the guitars as they come to life below.
