Introducing 'The Tool' by Spalt Instruments

We absolutely love it when our luthiers release new models to their line, and 'The Tool' from Michael Spalt of Spalt Instruments is one we have been eagerly waiting to get our hands on for some time! First seen at the Mannheim 'Guitar Summit' back in September 2017, the Tool has caught the imagination of players all over the world. An incredibly versatile guitar that is specifically designed for the touring artists, has a plethora of pick up options to give you virtually every sound you could ever dream of, whether that is a clean single coil funk to a thick Les Paul style bridge humbucker, this guitar really is every tool in one box!

Ben & Michael at The Guitar Summit back in September 2017.

The Tool is a new line of guitars for the road or studio designed for the 'player' or touring musician. It is simple, elegant, effective and a lot of FUN! These guitars feature a special pickup combination Michael has developed a while ago but that to date has only been installed in very special custom instruments.
"It certainly is a new thing for me, to make guitars in true series mode - I’ve always made one-offs and this requires a bit of a different approach - especially as I want to maintain the attention to detail and quality going into my other instruments.  Deceptively simple, reliable and attractive with a world of great tones at your fingertips - that’s the formula..." Michael Spalt.
Here is a video of our good friend Stuart Ryan demoing the stunning Blue Player Series No.1.
Two specially matched P-90 style Spalt BoneTop pickups in the bridge/middle position are controlled via a 4-way switch, giving the player either coil or both in parallel or series wiring. The resulting selection is then mixed via the 3-way in the upper bout with the neck pickup. 9 sound options are intuitively accessible on fly on stage...one of the most versatile instruments we have ever seen here at the TNAG showroom.

At the heart of this instrument is the special pickup configuration, offering hugely wide and dynamic range of tones. The three BoneTop pickups are combined in such a way that two of them, sitting in the bridge position, are wired through a 4-way switch giving either coil in single, or both coils in parallel (humbucker) or series mode.  Combined with the neck pickup via a 3-way you have a total of nine sounds, accessible in a very intuitive way.

Aside from how incredible the guitar feels and sounds, one of the most attractive attributes to this line from Spalt Instruments is the price point. The first Spalt Guitar that is under the £3,000 mark at a staggering £2,650 inc VAT, makes this guitar a players dream!!

A huge congratulations to Michael for creating an absolutely outstanding world-class instrument that is not only an incredibly beautiful, well-made instrument but is also affordable and wonderfully versatile.A hard combination to get just right!
