Introducing, Luthier Focus

New Luthier: Beau Hannam

Guitar maker Beau Hannam has a fascinating and unique backstory among luthiers we see here at TNAG.

Prior to building instruments, he was immersed in the visual fine arts, studying everything from painting to sculpture, and pulling inspiration from diverse influences, from the Renaissance era through the Deco and Nouveau movements. He trained in guitar building under Gerard Gilet of the Gilet School of Luthiery in Sydney, Australia, later working in his workshop. Now, Beau builds a select number of guitars each year from his workshop in Grand Junction, Colorado, crafting each one to the unique requests of his clients. He puts his spin on classic shapes, from the dreadnought to the parlor, as well as a tenor model and ukuleles.

Last year we were introduced to his work when one of his guitars came in via the Exchange. The combination of rich, dynamic tone and artistic embellishment he achieves made Beau a top choice when we geared up to start taking on new luthiers this year!

We've booked in two slots with him next year, and have specced out an L-00 in a very special set of Brazilian rosewood Beau nicknamed "Van Gogh" for the Starry Night-like figuring, as well as an OM in Madagascar rosewood. Both will feature torrefied Adirondack spruce tops.

These guitars won't go into build until March 2023. That means that any customer who pre-orders before then has the opportunity to customize these guitars to their preferences! We expect completion to be in early fall 2023.
