Introducing, Just Arrived, Luthier Focus

New Luthier: Bill Kraus

On a visit down from New York, luthier Bill Kraus dropped by the shop with an absolute gem of a guitar ready to sell!

We were familiar with his work from having seen his name pop up on the luthier rosters of the guitar shows, but hadn't yet had the chance to play his guitars in person. Taking inspiration from the classic Martin and Gibson designs, the Roberto-Venn Luthiery School graduate has a beautiful gallery of guitars on his website. We thought we'd have to wait to meet him in person later this year, but fortunately for us he was traveling through Nashville with a beautiful koa 0000!

Affable and easy-going, Bill told us that, following his Roberto-Venn experience, he went back to New York and immersed himself in repair work, which gave him a wealth of valuable knowledge and experience to take back into his own builds. Handcrafting his guitars using tried-and-true methods and timeless, classic designs, Bill's instruments will feel familiar to any Martin fans. But their tone and flawless playability, fit and finish will take you by surprise. Even Nick, who is notoriously hard to please, described his 0000 as "without fault"!

For fans of the Martin 0000 or M, Santa Cruz OM Grand or Bourgeios JOMT, Bill's 0000 is a perfect blend of balance, clarity and power. With a warm voice that represents each register beautifully, it's endlessly versatile and perfectly set up to accommodate any playing style.

We look forward to getting many more Kraus guitars in the future! Watch out for the demo of this 0000 coming soon, and reach out if you'd like to learn more about Bill and his work.
