Our First Batch of Maybach Guitars Arrive!
We are extremely pleased to announce that our first batch of Maybach Guitars has just landed in The North American Guitar showroom here in London!
We are proud to represent Maybach here at The North American Guitar, and this first flock of instruments is indicative of many good things both present, and to come.
Maybach operate a wonderful workshop out in mainland Europe, wherein a small team of experienced guitar builders hand-craft each instrument to a magnificent standard with a passion for detail and authentic vintage tone that results in truly remarkable instruments.
By and large their designs harken back to classic guitars of the '50s and '60s and this certainly isn’t lost along the way. From the choice of woods through to immaculate finishing and hand wound Amber pickups, Maybach Guitars really pluck at something very historic and familiar with a consistency and output that really does set them apart.
The aforementioned recent additions to our roster of instruments stands at not one, not two but three of Maybach’s aptly named ‘Lester’ model, two of which are ’59’ spec and one a ’58’ spec model. In addition to a gorgeous Miami Green Aged T54 ‘Teleman’, again with a name that begets the nature of the instrument beyond mistake.
The three ‘Lester’ models showcase the fantastic range of finishing options Maybach have to offer, from the darker Havanna Tobacco, through the Midnight Sunset and lightening right up in the very classic looking Honey Pie finish that adorns one of our '59 models. These guitars are of course finished in Nitrocellulose Lacquer and very tastefully aged, adding to the ‘broken in’ feel of these instruments and giving further emphasis on their vintage feel.
The Amber ‘Spirit of 59’ PAF style Humbuckers that electrify this raucous trio have a brilliant and articulate nature to them, not too high in output but certainly not lacking in punch and warmth. Great for gained up riffs and chimey cleans they really do cover a whole host of tonal possibilities and react wonderfully to whatever you throw at them.
The T54 is an altogether mellower creature, though should you find yourself winding up your amp and picking hard it certainly doesn’t fail to deliver some seriously fat and chunky sounds. One of my favourite aspects of this guitar’s design is the choice of ‘Sugar Pine’ for the body wood, much like very early ’T-style’ prototypes and production models. An ultimately lively and resonant wood, it adds a slightly different character to the guitars tone than its alder and ash contemporaries.
The Amber ’Twangtone’ pickups sported by the T54 nail the early '50s twang and spank and have a delightfully snappy response, a real treat with a loud, clean amp. With that being said, the flat pole ‘Broadcaster’-esque bridge pickup takes to gain like a dream, with lively harmonics and cutting highs it wouldn’t be phased sitting in a hard/classic rock mix.
Here's a closer look at what we've got in stock:
This first, stunning example is faithful recreation of the first ever year of the legendary sunburst single-cut guitar we all know and love.
Made up of Mahogany for the body and Neck, with a gorgeous flamed Maple top and Rosewood fretboard this really is dead on spec for its ancestor.
The tastefully aged and eye catching Havanna Tobacco finish gives this guitar an instantly familiar and vintage feel that really works with the sound and style of the guitar.
The chunky and full neck profile really is a pleasure to play and gifts the guitar a tremendous amount of sustain, also giving the player a lot of leverage for bends and tight vibrato.
The Amber 'Spirit of 59' pickups the guitar is equipped with really capture the sonic identity of a bygone era, with low enough output for crystalline clarity and enough grunt to really sing when paired with a gained up amplifier.
All in all a very versatile, classic and excellently built instrument we are proud to present here in our showroom.
This Lester '59 is a beautiful example based on the holy grail of vintage single cut guitars, and does a truly inspiring job of living up to its namesake.
Built up in Mahogany for the body and neck, Rosewood for the fretboard and sporting a magnificent flamed maple top, this instrument feels and sounds exactly like the guitar you hear in your head when someone mentions the term 'Blues Rock'.
The neck profile is substantial but comfortable, making for easy bending and a great deal of sustain and fatness to single lines as well as chords.
The aged 'Honey Pie' finish on this instrument really captures the feel and mojo of the Lester's vintage counterparts, and the ageing itself is very well done and reasonable subtle.
The set of Amber 'Spirit of 59' pickups do marvellous work in making this instrument intrinsically versatile, with punchy and articulate cleans through to full, rich and satisfying higher gain tones.
This second Lester '59 is equally as formidable as the afore mentioned, with the main differences being the Midnight Sunset finish and the slight intricacies and variables that come with a hand built instrument.
Again made up in Mahogany for the body and neck, with a fantastic flamed Maple top and Rosewood fretboard to very classic specs and sporting an iconic aesthetic, it really catches the feeling and vibe of its vintage counterparts.
In lieu of the vintage stylings of the instrument, the neck has a very amicable 'fat' carve and makes big, sustained bends a dream to embark on, sustain being a key trait embodied by the whole guitar.
The Amber 'Spirit of 59' pickups really aid the guitar in capturing those iconic rock and soul tones one would associate with the DNA of this mighty singlecut. Low output enough to make for versitile and chimey cleans but with enough grunt to deliver rich and satisfying rock tones, this really is a tremendously versatile instrument.
This wonderful Maybach Teleman T54 in Miami Green is a fantastically made iteration of one of the most iconic and versatile solid body workhorses in history.
These four fantastic guitar guitars are a great introduction to what Maybach are all about, and we've been floored by their incredible attention to detail and glorious tones. We couldn't be happier with the guitars we've got in and can't wait to see more of them in the near future.
If you'd like any more info on these guitars don't hesitate to get in touch or better still, stop by the show room, crank up an amp and get to know them first hand!
Until then, have a great weekend!
