New Victoria Amps Arrive
I'd known for a number of weeks prior to the day that we had a hefty flock of brand new Victoria Amps set to land at The North American Guitar, and yet when the boxes started building up at the entrance to our London Showroom I couldn't hold back the sense of childish excitement that drove me to drop everything and get them all out and fired up!
I've been a big fan of Victoria Amplifier for quite some time with many of my heroes swearing by their incredible build ethic and tonal majesty, though with that said the chances to try their esteemed wares have been few and far between. Up until now.
If you're in need of a brief introduction to what the good people at Victoria Amplifier do; think vintage Fender style amps hand-made in the USA with the finest available components, to the highest standards possible and with a keen attention to detail and love for what they do that really does make their amps some of the finest out there today.
This latest assortment from Victoria consists of three different models, with two of each now residing in our Showroom giving a lovely cross-section of what they're all about.
With the 518 and 5112 covering classic and modified late 1950s Tweed Champ tones respectively, and the Victoriette opening the door to the incredibly lush Deluxe Reverb tones of the early '60s with a subtle British Class A sonic twist, these three beauties all have something very special to offer in the world of inspired vintage sound and feel.
Now let's get into these stunning amps in a bit more detail!
The Victoria 518 is a tribute to the Fender 5F1 Champ model from the 1950s. After 60+ years, this little gem continues to delight players for being an outstanding practice and studio amp.
With just the one knob on the top panel, which doubles as the on/off switch, it's an ultimately simple thing in operation, but as you wind your way through those generous five watts of power there really is a wealth of variation in what this little monster has to offer.
When you factor in the volume and tone controls on your instrument, it becomes immediately obvious why the Champ has always been such a huge success with recording artists around the world, with a breathtaking responsiveness to any change in playing or settings and gorgeous harmonic overtones and rich saturation up the far end of the volume taper it really is sonic bliss to engage with.
This is a perfect choice for club dates when paired with an efficient external speaker cabinet. Did you know that the original '50s Champ has been the mainstay of many of the Stones recorded tracks for decades?

This tweed beauty is a 5112 Amp from Victoria Amplifier out in the USA. Made from the finest components available and entirely hardwired, they really do deliver absolutely staggering tones, with incredible versatility given the 'one-knob' format of the control panel.
Being a faithful reproduction of the late 1950's Fender 5F1 Champ circuit, this amp is perfect for reproducing those magical and iconic tones of the music that defined the popular culture of the time.
However with the addition of a slightly larger Deluxe-style Pine Cabinet to accommodate the 12" Eminence Legend Speaker, it gives out a more defined grunt and size in its tone, while retaining all the telltale harmonics and overtones you'd be right to crave from a low-powered tweed amp.

The Victoria Victoriette possesses the warmth and clean headroom of a blackface Deluxe, with the character, charm, and dynamic response of a Class A British amp, but it is a knockoff of nothing.
Running a very substantial feeling 20 watts of power from a pair of 6L6 tubes, the amp has more than enough clean headroom for gigging, with a gorgeous creamy grunt to it when cranked up.
The Reverb and Tremolo available via footswitch or simply on the top panel of the amplifier, are both devoutly vintage in feel, giving the tone a beautiful three-dimensional aspect on top of the sonic depth and size exhibited even set completely dry.

We've absolutely fallen in love with these inspiring tone-shapers here at TNAG and the more time we spend with them, the more guitars we plug in to them, the clearer it becomes that these really are as deeply nuanced instruments as anything else that helps carry your voice from your fingertips out in to the world at large.
I sincerely hope that at some point in the near future you have the chance to play through one of these magnificent devices for yourself, but a word of warning; once you do, it'll be hard to go back to anything else!
