Presents: Episode 11. Kimble A-Style Mandolin

You won't find mandolin builder Will Kimble going to great lengths to promote his work online. But his fine instruments, and the passionate fandom of serious mandolinists like Jordan, will tell you all you need to know about the humble luthier's meticulous work. Join us for Episode 11 of TNAG's Presents as Jordan demonstrates the throaty, midrange-focused Kimble A-Style mandolin.

Kimble A-Style Mandolin, Red Spruce & Red Maple - $5,100

Inspired by Loar-era Gibsons, Will Kimble has been building mandolins with his father Fred since 2000. Kimble does not have any standard models or trim levels because he believes that each build is unique, and handcrafts each mandolin based on tone, feel, and aesthetics. The combination of its red spruce top and a one-piece red maple back and sides gives this A-style mandolin a generous amount of volume, fullness, and warmth, without ever sacrificing its balanced tone. These tonal characteristics, paired with its varnished traditional sunburst finish and ivoroid body, fingerboard, and peghead binding, make this Kimble A Mandolin perfect for those looking for a high-quality, handcrafted mandolin that boasts both vintage tone and aesthetics.
