Presents: Episode 12. Tom Sands Model S "Kira"

This delightful, small-bodied Model S from Yorkshire-based luthier Tom Sands didn't stay in our shop long. Lucky for us, the new owner kindly let us keep it long enough to make Episode 12 of Presents. Italian spruce and sustainably sourced Crelicam ebony are appointed with Tom's trademark patinated copper touches.

Tom Sands Model S "Kira" - $16,950

We've been highly anticipating this Model S from Yorkshire-based luthier Tom Sands. The Model S is the smallest body size offered by Tom, and this particular model has a 12-fret join, with a cutaway that allows further access up the neck. This guitar features Crelicam striped ebony for the back and sides paired with an Italian spruce top and a wenge neck. With slinky short scale of 24-3/4", 1-3/4" nut width and 2-1/4" string spacing, this is an incredibly comfortable and responsive guitar. But thanks to the 12-fret design, it lacks no power. Tom named it after his friend Kira, a fellow luthier from Germany, who he describes as "small yet mighty". We'd say that's equally true of her namesake guitar! Throughout you'll find Tom's beautiful trademark patinated copper in the rosette, headstock and position markers, adding an exquisite touch to an already delightful instrument.
