The 2018 Review

2018 has been a truly amazing year for The North American Guitar and we have so much to be thankful for. A huge thank you to all our customers for your support and loyalty, and to all our luthiers who continue to build the finest guitars on the planet and change the world one guitar at a time! To all the incredible artists who have come in and performed on product demos, hosted live sessions and played at our events, a big thank you and to everyone on who has watched us on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, thank you for all your Likes, Comments and shares...every day we spread our message about the finest luthier-built instruments just a little more with your support.

So, as we come to the close of 2018, I just wanted to write a little blog to re-live some of our highlights of 2018...

New Luthiers

2018 saw the biggest surge of new luthiers to our roster of guitar building talent...

Isaac Jang:

Isaac joined us in January this year delivering his NAMM presentation OM in Cocobolo which set the path for an incredible year of orders. Isaac is a brilliantly talented and vibrant guy build sensational instruments out of Los Angels Califonia. He achieved front page and a full review in the acclaimed Acoustic Magazine which we were incredibly proud of.

Tom Sands:

Tom has gone on to rock the luthier world with his stunning new line in the S, M & L and has orders with us now up until 2021. His marketing capabilities and social media presence have seen his brand grow and a phenomenal rate and we cannot wait to see what he has install for us next year.

The Santa Cruz Guitar Co.:

One of the world most highly respected guitar manufactures, we have been wanting to work with Richard Hoover and his Santa Cruz Guitar Co. team since the inception of the company back in 2010, and so we were delighted when they approached us for UK representation.

Leo Buendia:

The masterful Leo Buendia joined us at the start of 2018 and we have been absolutely blown away by his utter professionalism and phenomenal instruments. Having kicked off our partnership with him delivering one of the most outstanding Modified Dreadnought in the legendary Tree mahogany, we have not stopped since. Look out for our latest order with Leo, a mind-blowing OM in African Blackwood coming to us in late 2019.

Michi Matsuda:

To say we were over the moon to represent Michi Matsuda would be an understatement. Possibly one of the most highly coveted and respected luthiers in the world Michi continues to build guitars that revolutionise the guitar as we know it, fusing the contemporary guitar with his flair for contemporary art. Available Matsuda guitars are like finding a unicorn and a leprechaun on the same day very rare indeed! This year we have seen not one but two come through the showroom, both of which are still available, but we know they won't be for very long...

Lars Rasmussen:

Having pined after Lars guitars for two years since first playing one at the Santa Barbara Acoustic Music Celebration in 2016, we were overjoyed when he joined the gang back in March this year. Having just delivered his first instrument to us just this month we know why he is so respected by his peers, building guitars that will quite literally melt your heart. Here he is chatting about the bespoke order we just took delivery of for our client, a Model O in Brazilian Rosewood & Italian Spruce.

Stephen Strahm:

As with Lars we have been lusting after Stephen's guitars since we first met in 2016 at the Santa Barara Guitar Show, known in the industry and the hidden jewel and having trained with luthier superstar Jeff Traugott & Richard Hoover, Stephen is making guitars that are paving the way in this Golden Era of guitar making we are living in. Spending time with him at his work shop in California earlier just reaffirmed this mans talent and passion for tone and stunning craftsmanship. Stephen has a very exciting 2019 planned with TNAG.

Red Rocket Guitars:

The arrival of our first Red Rockets stopped us in our tracks back in April. Built by one man shop by Matt Nowicki, Red Rocket makes totally custom guitars, one at a time, to your exact specs with the best materials and components. Private Reserve level woods, vintage tone caps and custom wound pickups, custom binding and purflings are just the start. They mix vintage vibe with the best contemporary guitar building techniques to create modern classics with roots in the golden age of guitars and we just love them! Look out for more of these stunners coming to TNAG in 2019...

Nik Huber:

Who says persistence never pays off is wrong! Ever since I played my very first Huber I have been a huge fan of Nik and his phenomenal guitars. Having met back in 2016, Nik and I became good friends and have been talking about trying to work together ever since. However, being one of the worlds most popular electric guitar brands we found it hard to fit in TNAG orders, however this year Nik, Clemens and his amazing team at Nik Huber guitars joined the very selective TNAG roster of electric guitar builders. His Onyx Black Rietberen sold within hours of it arriving and we have just taken on our very first Dolphin II, which is absolutely out of this world!

Cornell Amps:

As many of you will know Dennis Cornell is somewhat of a legend in the music world building amps for a plethora or international superstars! Having been introduced to us via our dear friend Bruce Dickinson (Waterbear), we were privileged to add him and his incredible amps to our accessories line up and amp manufacturers. We have seen both the Romney and the Plexi's be sent to every corner of the globe including New Zealand, USA, and Singapore...We have just introduced his brand new 5watt Amp the Traveler to our range which as the name would suggest is the perfect little amp for home, studio and on the road.

TonewoodAmp:

As soon as we saw the Tonewood Amps being showcase by our great friend Mike Dawes at the Summer NAMM shown in Nashville, we jumped at them. Offering the acoustic player a new landscape for creativity, they have fast become a best seller.

Events:

This year have hosted some truly memorable events, from our 8th Anniversary Celebration with Clive Caroll & Will McNicol, to the master himself Michael Greenfield and his 'The Invisible Guitar' presentation, Michael Bashkin's Q&A, Tom Sands Launch Event and of course The Boutique Guitar Showcase to name a few, the showroom as been abuzz with music, luthery insights and of course plenty of glasses of champagne...

Workshops:

This year we saw the very first of our TNAG Guitar workshops. Teaming up with the outstanding Will McNicol for a two-day guitar extravaganza...
