The Making of The North American Guitar Nashville

I first landed in Nashville in the winter of 2007 as a young singer songwriter off to write my first album 'Overcome'. I can remember the feeling of utter excitement walking through the iconic streets of Downtown Nashville (now locally known as NashVegas) jaw on the floor and in total awe of this incredible city that had music running through its veins and more talent on every corner than you could shake a stick at. I was bitten by the Nashville bug immediately and loved every minute of it.

As I travelled around, studio to studio, on Music Row working with some legendary songwriters such as Denis Matkoski (Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes) , Gary Bur (Garth Brooks, Ringo Starr) and Jeff Cohen (Sugarland, Josh Groban) to name a few, I would never have imagined 12 years later I would be coming back here and putting down roots alongside such a historic brand as Cotten Music.

Those of you who know us, know we don't like to sit still for too long here at The North American Guitar and are always looking for new ways to bring our customers the very best service, incredible video content, exceptional online video lessons, the most competitive prices and, most of all, the very best guitar buying experience in the world (both on and off-line).

Over the past two years we have seen a surge in the number of our US customers and since then have been looking at ways in which we could possibly expand and open a second location in the USA, or at least team up with a sales representative to liaise with customers that have questions about our luthiers or in stock guitars whilst we are all fast asleep in the UK (not often haha). So the day I got a call from a long-standing customer and friend asking if I would be interested in meeting with Kim Sherman from Cotten, I jumped at the chance....

I have know of the legendary Cotten Music Centre for many years and the iconic status it has held on the Nashville music scene. Started by Richard Cotten back in the early 1960s, Cotten went on to become a launch pad for some of the world's biggest brands in today's guitar world, from Taylor to Collings and Santa Cruz. If you got your guitars into Cotten, you got them in to the hands of the right players and collectors. Cotten was run by Richard alongside his wife in Hillsboro Village until Richard's passing in 1995.

Kim Sherman, she is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting, she is an encyclopaedia of knowledge, humble and possible the best guitar sales person I have come across (ask any of her clients). We first spoke on the phone on a very grey February morning here in London and I just knew she was the partner we had been looking for to expand our UK operation in to the US.

After much consideration and many WhatsApp messages from both sides of the Atlantic, Kim and I both decided the best route for our partnership would be for The North American Guitar to acquire Cotten Music and rebrand the business as The North American Guitar Nashville (incorporating Cotten Music). Within three months, both of our legal teams had drawn up an agreement and on the 15th July at 6.32pm our new partner Kim and I signed our agreement and The North American Guitar Nashville was born.

Then, the hard work began!

The showroom redesign starts...

had a little extra help...

The TNAG rugs arrive...

Guitar one gets hung....

The showroom starts to come together...

It starts to feel like a home from home...

TNAG founder Robert J Montague CBE (aka Dad) enjoys the new TNAG Nashville Chesterfield...

After a month of hard work and phenomenal team work, The North American Guitar Nashville is born and we could not be prouder! The showroom, in the heart of Music City, is now open!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our incredible luthiers and you, our loyal TNAG customers & friends, for your support over the years and hope that this new chapter enables you to enjoy a wider variety of sensational guitars and excellent prices paired with phenomenal customer service.

Have a great day!
