Former Somogyi apprentice Michihiro Matsuda was born and raised in Japan, before moving to the US to study at the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie in Phoenix, Arizona, then with Ervin Somogyi in San Francisco.
After his apprenticeship, Michi studied guitar repair with renowned instrument repairman Frank Ford of Gryphon Stringed Instruments, where he is now part of the repair staff. "Tradition, creativity, identity. They are always my focus in my guitar making. It is my challenge to find something new among them in the form of guitars. Sound is important, but it is only a part of the entire relationship with you and guitars, also me and guitars. It can be mental, it can be physical, it can be intellectual. It is fluid, yet simple."

“Tradition, Creativity, Identity... they are always my focus in my guitar making.”
"Each of guitars I make is unique, personal, and individual. I want Matsuda guitars to be more than just tools for music. I would be happy if you find a meaningful experience with the guitars I make."
I am honored and pleased to work with TNAG. They are one of a few guitar shops in the world who focus on guitars from small size boutique makers and Luthiers. They know about custom guitars and have knowledge about how to assist players to find special guitars for their needs. I appreciate their dedicated service for players and also for makers.
