Ciaran McNally has achieved a lot in his young years, having studied at Belfast's Lagan Lutherie School and London Metropolitan University's College of Furniture, Ciaran then worked as Senior Craftsman with George Lowden and Production Manager at Atkin Guitars before returning home to Armagh, Northern Ireland to set up his own workshop.

Ciaran now builds 40 guitars a year, taking inspiration from Celtic guitars to capture his desired warmth.

“I take the warmth and complexity of Celtic guitars and add some of the definition and fundamental qualities of great American guitars. The result is a more versatile offering”

"While I fully recognise that my guitars are still priced at the premium end of the general guitar market, I take pride in the fact that my base prices are comparable and even considered affordable against bigger manufacturers. I find that this allows me to connect with more musicians, see my guitars being enjoyed and used to create. It is the best part of being a guitar maker!

My techniques are a mixture of traditional and modern, hand tools and machinery. I aim to be very transparent about how I make my guitars, and let the customer make their own judgement. For me, the result is more important that the method used to get there.”

“I enjoy working with dealers like TNAG not only because of how well they represent my work, but also that I can access their wealth of knowledge in my constant desire to improve my instruments.

I really enjoy working on custom guitars and spec’ing up special models with the TNAG team, but I also believe there is benefit in having great quality stock guitars available to buy too, so that they whole range of TNAG’s customer’s can enjoy my work.”

Ciaran's notes

I’ve been a fan of traditional Dreadnoughts for a long time, and I’m not messing around with this one! This new McNally version of the American classic, is traditional in it’s shape and tone. It’s big, clear and fundamental, with great note separation and ready to take a hit. Perfect for flatpicking and strumming, and in my opinion, there is no better guitar for Irish Trad accompaniment than a traditional dreadnought. This could be geared more towards fingerstyle playing with some different wood choices and changes to the internal voicing.

The largest model available in the McNally range, this is a full sized jumbo guitar.

Ciaran's Notes

Large guitars such as this tend not to have the immediate response of smaller models, instead expect a dynamic response with full and complex overtones.
