Details

It's not everyone who turns the experience of having a guitar stolen into becoming a masterful luthier. But Cory Batson, with his exploratory, curiosity-driven approach, isn't like most people, or builders for that matter. His characteristic soundhole-less tops were inspired by his experience as a drummer, and his goal of maximizing bass response lead him to other unusual design features, like a cantilevered neck, a thin bridge, and a specialty tailpiece.

Sometimes when a luthier foregoes too many aspects of traditional guitar design, it can feel and sound as if their guitar is missing something essential. Not so with this one. A powerful bass register, warm mids, and balanced trebles define this Sitka and rosewood guitar. A generously sized soundport on the side both takes the place of a traditional soundhole, and gives the player incredible volume and feedback on their playing. Akin to a deeper-bodied OM in its proportions, this Grand Concert model has a comfortable D profile neck and a nut width just shy of 1-3/4". As tonally commanding as it is visually striking, it's a joy to play. This 2012 model is in excellent condition with very little wear to speak of.
