Details
With an approach to building that is entirely tone-focused, from carefully thought out construction to minimal aesthetics, Maine-based French luthier Laurent Brondel is crafting some of the finest acoustic guitars around. His A-2 model is a mid-sized OM-style guitar, with all the balance and versatility you'd expect. Lightly building his guitars with slightly arched, rather than radiused, tops and backs, and finishing with oil varnish means his guitars have surprising dynamic range and response for their size, all while being lightly built. This is one of only two guitars crafted from this particular set of cocobolo, with a Carpathian spruce top. It was nicknamed "Church Bell" due to its ringing response when tapped, and received accolades from Acoustic Guitar Magazine shortly after it was built in 2012. Given its quick, satisfying response, excellent playability, and wonderfully balanced and rich tone, we are not surprised. The slightly longer 25.6" scale length on this model gives the strings a bit of added tension, so that their tone remains articulate and clear in drop tunings.
The condition is excellent, with just a little bit of wear below the strings between the pickguard and bridge to note. Demo coming soon! Check out the old AGF video below.
