Details

Hand built by luthiers Matthias Roux and Matthew Rice in South Africa, Casimi Guitars have an unforgettable design. At its core, this 2016 C2 is essentially a Grand Auditorium model, with the full-bodied, articulate sound the shape is known for, with richness in the lower register and sparkle in the treble.

Beyond that, this guitar is anything but typical. The player-friendly ergonomics of the curved waist, beveled armrest and cutaway are elegant and inviting. The 12-fret design combined with an elliptical soundhole that meets up with the fingerboard extension means that, however positioned, the player's right hand will never be blocking the soundhole. The combination of African blackwood and German spruce on this body shape is nuanced and complex, and sure to provide deep satisfaction for the fingerstyle soloist.

It could easily take a few sit downs to notice all of the aesthetic appointments this guitar has, many of which serve a practical function as well. The hollow port bridge allows easy access of the magnetic cap that covers the string slots. The three-dimensional rosette is carved African blackwood, and the brass and Hawaiian black lipped pearl inlay is a traditional African motif that pays tribute to the source of so much of the materials that make up this guitar. The hollow slotted headstock is accented by flamed koa, which recurs in the purfling. The result is cohesive, modern, and unlike anything else.

As hesitant as we are to throw around "mint", the term applies to this pre-owned 2016 C2. It has been very well cared for, and the frets show almost no sign of wear. Includes its original Hoffee hard case.
