"With my concert guitar I aim to achieve a guitar with an intimate tone but with more than enough volume for any player to express themselves. With this comes exacting attention to detail in aesthetics and craftsmanship." - Christopher Dean
Oxford, England-based luthier Christopher Dean builds exclusively classical nylon-string guitars, and one play or listen of this one, you can tell his time is well-invested. Using the finest CITES approved Brazilian rosewood, European spruce, and finishing with a French polish, this Concert model has a wonderfully balanced and rich tone, with satisfying note clarity and separation. The set-up is friendly even to non-classical players. While the nut width does measure just over 2", it has excellent playability and is easier to adapt to than some nylon-strings.
The French polish finish on this guitar is beautifully done, allowing the woods to vibrate more freely, as well as giving the player a more direct tactile experience. The one downside is that on this model, there seems to have been a chemical reaction with the prior owner's skin oils, resulting in stubborn fingerprints (they don't register in the photos, but they are visible from a close distance in the right light). Because of the delicate nature of French polish, we don't want to take any risks trying to remove them. Otherwise, this guitar is in excellent condition.
