An African tonewood growing in popularity, wenge is often compared to rosewoods for its lushness and sustain. But in our experience, it always has a little bit of its own thing going on, too. Clean and crisp, bordering on glassy, Collings has used it beautifully on this custom OM, where it has a bit of zing and clarity without being harsh, and of course, the endless sustain. The baked Sitka top rounds it out, and the deeper body cavity adds some grounding bass power. A pristine black finish coats the back, sides and neck, and the combination of the Vintage Now neck profile and spacing and short scale length make this a fingerpicker's dream. This 2019 model is in excellent condition, with strap button installed.
