Details
We're in love with all things Collings here at TNAG but this beautifully aged black Statesman LC is a special one. Sometimes you pick up a guitar and on the first strum it stops you in your tracks and you find yourself pulling your jaw up off the floor - this Statesman is one such guitar. Fully hollow with a trestle-braced maple laminate body, it's as loud and resonant acoustically as a vintage archtop, and the Bigsby adds a haunting harmonic richness that on the Statesman almost sounds like it has built-in reverb. Plugged in, the TV Jones Classic Filtertrons capture the vintage twang and growl of the early Filtertrons the lends the Statesman toward the classic sounds pioneered by players like Chet Atkins and Eddie Cochran, but don't be fooled into thinking that's all the Statesman excels at. It handles volume and moderate gain admirably and produces controllable, musical feedback only accentuated by the extra harmonic content the Bigsby provides. Boasting the smooth, silky feel and playability and meticulous attention to fit and finish detail you've come to expect from Collings, this Statesman is one of those rare occasions where you get to "have your cake and eat it too" - a thoroughly modern build with a vintage soul.
