"The Mod-D. or M.D. (Modified Dreadnought) is my proprietary shape, it grew out of the very traditional Martin Dreadnought guitar. That guitar was designed for musicians who stood when they played; my version is designed for musicians who sit. As such, it offers a waist and a better center-of-balance." - Ervin Somogyi

It's always a joy to get another modified dreadnought in the shop from the originator of the design himself, Ervin Somogyi. This pre-owned Somogyi Mod-D was crafted in 2009, but actually came to us from Ervin himself, who recently revoiced and refinished it. The end result is everything we've come to expect from a Somogyi guitar, from the tone down to the artfully rendered details.

A Sitka spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides provide the player with an articulate, clear voice, with just the right amount of sustain and overtone bloom. Brazilian rosewood recurs again on the binding and bridge for cohesive visual appeal, and the Sitka top has darkened to an amber hue over the years. The delicate little mosaics you see on the segmented rosette as well as the fretboard markers add a touch of what Ervin calls "well-calibrated visual echoing". Ervin's custom pointed headstock sports a veneer of burled wood with an abalone center strip.
