This gorgeous F40 from Dale Fairbanks takes its cues from the iconic Gibson J-185, and whilst striving to capture the tone of this beloved vintage instrument, it is by no means a clone or replica but instead strives to pick up where the original left off, with an attention to detail and painstaking degree of workmanship that you would struggle to find in a vintage example.
With a Torrefied Maple back and sides coupled with a Red Spruce top, the construction of this guitar goes all out in putting together some remarkable sets of high grade tonewoods for the foundations of the instrument.
Tonally, this combination yields classic results, with an extremely balanced and open tone and touch sensitive response, you'd be hard pressed to pick up the guitar and feel anything short of inspired.
The Mahogany neck has a supremely comfortable 50s profile to it and topped with a Ziricote fretboard makes for a magnificent platform through which to coax out the widely versatile range of sounds the guitar has to offer.
Being pre-owned the guitar has had time to really open up, which in tandem with the Torrefied woods and vintage-esque makeup has gifted it with a truly remarkable voice. Responsive, yet never overpowering lows, dry and punchy mids and clear, sparkling trebles make up the bulk of what this F40 puts out, and whether your gently fingerpicking or digging in with a flatpick there's a wealth of headroom and volume in this small jumbo.
