Details

This 1934 Gibson L-Century is a wonderful piece of history! Adirondack spruce, maple, and a whole lot of flashy celluloid. To sum it up, we're going to quote from Mark Stutman at Folkway Music and his excellent write-up of the model:

"The Century of Progress models were unveiled by Gibson at Chicago's 1933 World's Fair—The Century of Progress International Exposition—which celebrated that city's 100th anniversary. Pearloid, and all celluloid products, were still quite new and exciting at that time, and Gibson designed the Century models to showcase their use of the plastic. The fingerboard, headstock, bindings, tuner buttons, pickguard, and bridgepins are all made of Celluloid of one pattern or another."

Tonally, it's clean and woody, and as punchy and clear as could be. All original finish and parts, except for a newer bridge plate, and it's crack-free and comes with its original chipboard case. The back of the neck has been marked up quite a bit, either through leaning against a hard surface or rough capo use, or both. It doesn't inhibit playability, though. The back braces are a bit loose, but the seller wants to sell it in its current, as-is condition.
