Gibson F-4 Mandolin, 1921, Figured Maple & Spruce - Pre-Owned

This F-4 from Gibson, made in the year of 1921, is an absolutely superb example of an oval-hole mandolin. Made of exquisitely figured maple for the back and sides with a carved spruce top, this gorgeous instrument is not only a great looker, but a joy to play and tonally magnificent with the full, throaty and balanced tonality that has made these mandolins so iconic. The top was at one point refinished, going from red to black. It is in well-played but very good condition, and comes in its original hardshell case.

  • Top: Carved spruce (refinished)
  • Back and sides: Carved figured maple w/ dark mahogany sunburst
  • Pickguard: Original
  • Binding: Ivoroid
  • Fingerboard: Treble-side extension
  • Headstock: Double flowerpot inlay in abalone pearl and slanted Gibson logo
  • Tuners: Nickel-plated (original)
  • Bridge: Adjustable ebony
