Details
California-based luthier Kirk Sand has been building since the 1970s, crafting a wide range of steel-string acoustic, electric and nylon-string guitars, often with virtuoso fingerstylists in mind. Along those lines, this prototype model was crafted for legendary player Richard Smith, lauded by Tommy Emmanuel, Muriel Anderson, and even Chet Atkins, who said, "He can play anything I know, only better." This RSM-SST is a comfortable 14-1/2" across the lower bout, and under 4" deep, lending it a balanced, restrained voice. But that acoustic restraint comes in handy, as it's outfitted with the same RMC pickup system you've seen on Godin guitars, giving it a wide array of tonal options when plugged in. It still sounds fantastic played acoustic, though, with a warmth and nuance achieved through a combination of Brazilian rosewood and German spruce.
This guitar ships out in its original hardshell case. Structurally it is in excellent condition and set-up well, but some scattered minor finish dings and scratches pull the overall rating down to very good+.
