The MDW, a redesigned, smaller Modified Dreadnought featuring 12 frets to the body and a Florentine cutaway, has been a popular model for Jason Kostal since its introduction. This is what he has to say about the model:
"Kostal Guitar’s second complete redesign, the MDW is the result of a collaboration with fingerstyle musician Michael Watts. It was an amazing project in which we both described what we wanted a guitar to do, and what we needed it to do, and then set out to create the guitar to meet those high expectations. The body is similar to a scaled down version of the MD, adding to its comfort and playability with total dimensions that make it only slightly smaller than the OM. The 12 fret body joint adds a level of beauty, warmth and sustain not experienced in other guitars, and the overall size and look is elegant in every way. The MDW has since become my most popular model, and with every new MDW I make, I am reminded of just how extraordinary this instrument is."
Utilizing his go-to soundboard wood of German spruce for the perfect blend of articulation, warmth and definition, Jason has crafted the back and sides of this MDW with mahogany so tightly figured it might give flamed maple a run for its money. Jason maximizes the mahogany warmth and midrange while drawing out nuance and complex sustain that one might typically associate with rosewood.
