Our goal in designing the Lame Horse, Komona Wauna Leiya ukuleles was to come up with an excellent sounding instrument, made of quality components, that could be sold at a reasonable price. Most of the components of the Komona Wauna Leiya ukuleles come to us from an importer in Southern California who is able to supply us with high quality parts that meet our specifications. All of the components are top notch - all solid wood bodies, solid mahogany necks, quality geared tuners, and bone nuts and saddles. The final assembly and setup takes place in our shop in Texas. The pictures on the back of the ukuleles are modifications of old cowgirl pinup prints. To us, the cowgirls are pure fun. However, if someone just wants a quality ukulele without the artwork, the prints can be removed without damaging the instrument. The finishing touch is the faux alligator plush lined hardshell case supplied with each Komona Wauna Leiya ukulele.
The inspiration for creating these ukuleles in the first place was the story of a vintage ukulele belonging to a cowboy named Dusty Johnso - Click here for the Dusty Johnson Story.
