Wenge as a tonewood is not the easiest to work with--it needs to be handled with extra care and precision to be crafted into a guitar. But once it is, it vibrates "like a piece of glass, plate of steel, or a crystal brandy snifter", as Ervin Somogyi said. As this less common tonewood becomes more popular, it is all the more impressive that the team at Maestro has been able to make a fine wenge guitar at such a reasonable price point. To balance out wenge's glass-like response and resonance, they've paired it with warm western red cedar. The end result is a guitar that responds to the lightest touch and rings effortlessly. This 000-sized Victoria also comes with all the CSB options--the Florentine cutaway, soundport, and beveled armrest--as well as a custom Maestro hard case.
