Details
It comes as no surprise that Martin has attempted to faithfully reproduce this specific holy grail guitar in recent years. The 1931 Martin 00-18 is the epitome of the pre-war 00 sound, and this one is as good as they come. With its Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and scalloped X-bracing with hide glue, this instrument emanates the tone and aesthetic of Martin’s most sought after period.
Two years after the production of this guitar, Martin changed the 00-18 from its 12-fret construction to a 14-fret design. While the 14-fret 00-18s are beloved in their own right, this 12-fret 00-18 stands as an exemplary instrument from Martin’s pre-war period. The 12-fret 00-18 has always appealed to a wide array of players over the decades due to its poignant mid-range, note clarity, and its comfortable 1-7/8” nut width with generous string spacing. This guitar feels at home in the hands of any style of player with its versatile, yet iconic, voice.
Notes from Kim: This wonderful 00-18 is clean and original with no cracks. Our customer purchased it from a well-known dealer who got it from the original owner's family when they sold it after going through the estate. It's been well-loved and polished frequently, hence the glossy patina. Nothing has been done to the finish. All tuner buttons have recently been replaced.
