It's always a special day when a pre-war Martin shows up in the shop, but this 1938 000-28 may have the honor of being the collective favorite. Special for a number of reasons, this 000-28 has a rare combination of wide 1-3/4" nut and rear-shifted braces. It's in very good condition for its age, and it features gorgeous straight-grained Brazilian rosewood and an even-grained Adirondack spruce top. Stated as in overall original condition by a well-known vintage guitar dealer, this guitar does show evidence of extremely well-done and older overspray and some more recent touch-up work to the top. The overspray is so well done, though, one could easily be forgiven for not recognizing it as such. The bridge, bridgeplate, and tuning machines are said to be original. The neck has been reset, but this does not deduct from the value of the guitar, but rather enhances playability and should be considered necessary maintenance.
