Details

Crafted from old growth Sinker Mahogany cut between 1880 and 1920 in Belize, this Martin Custom Shop D-18 flawlessly captures the spirit of Martin’s “Golden Era” pre-war instruments. When these trees were cut over 100 years ago in Central America, they were then floated down rivers to the sawmills. In the process, nearly one third of the wood sank to the bottom of the river and were never recovered (hence the name “sinker”). Decades later, with the use of sonar and scuba gear, Martin Guitars acquired this precious pre-war wood. Paired with an Adirondack Spruce top, this dreadnought powerhouse emits the balance, clarity, volume, and fundamental resonance for which the cherished D-style instruments of the “Golden Era” are notorious. With its classic style burst, and timeless aesthetic appointments, Martin Custom Shop D-18 beholds the look, feel, sound, and vibe of only the most sought after Martin Guitars.
