This instrument is an Artist model, thoughtfully and beautifully conceived and built by Martin Guitars celebrating one of the true greats in British folk music; the one and only John Martyn.
A combination of specifications from Martyn's three favoured acoustic guitars, the John Martyn Artist Model finds its foundations in the stylings of a classic Martin D-28, but with a few subtle modifications that make it something entirely unique.
With a gorgeous set of East Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, and a premium quality Sitka Spruce top, the guitar sounds like your quintessential dreadnought, with great power, clarity and definition to the overall balanced and versatile tone.
The neck is a Satin Finished Mahogany topped with Ebony in line with a traditional D-28, but the specs start to deviate with the custom 1 11/16" nut width greatly suited to fingerstyle playing but also making for a general exceptionally comfortable fretting experience regardless.
In a similar vein, the guitar features a very rare '0' shape from the very early 1900s, with the slotted headstock design providing a steeper break angle and really driving the soundboard more than a conventional headstock design.
One of the most endearing features on this stunning piece is the 'Orb' inlay on the 5th fret, depicting the cover from Martyn's innovative and magical 1973 release 'Solid Air' and really putting the stamp on this guitar as a very personal commemoration of his hugely influential contributions to the music world.
The guitar is unbelievably responsive and dynamic, with a complexity and sustain less often found in dreadnought guitars but undeniably present in this sublime instrument. The balance and clarity in this instrument is similarly noteworthy and with truly stellar playability, coaxing the best out of the guitar takes little effort and is inspiring to say the least.
The guitar is in superb condition and comes in it's original Hardcase.
