Details
Based out of Sisters, Oregon, Preston Thompson and his small team of master luthiers build guitars based on the renowned prewar instruments that are beloved by many. This Preston Thompson D-MA draws its inspiration from the 1937 Martin D-28 that once belonged to the late Charles Sawtelle of the bluegrass powerhouse band, Hot Rize. Its classic pairing of an Adirondack Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, and soft v, one-piece Mahogany neck creates an instrument that is an absolute bluegrass canon. Its quick response, open voice, and raw power make it extremely satisfying to play. The guitar has a rich, resonate low end that can be felt in one’s chest, with an overall tone that is full, clear, and balanced. The dynamics of this instrument make it extremely intuitive to play as it reacts to even the lightest touch. These features paired with its hand-carved scalloped Adirondack bracing, dovetail neck joint, hide-glue construction, and thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish make this Preston Thompson D-MA an absolute must-have for those looking for an authentic pre-war build that boasts the reliability and master build quality of a modern guitar.
