Mike Ramsey is one of the premier banjo-makers in the United States, building some of the best modern examples of the instrument available today. Once based in Chapel Hill North Carolina, Ramsey now builds instruments in Appomattox, Virginia.

This example, built in his Chapel Hill workshop, is an A-Scale open-back banjo, has a much shorter scale than is typical, making it extremely comfortable, and more manageable for the smaller player. While banjos are typically tuned to open G, these short scale examples are tuned to open A, making them perfect for old-time fiddle tunes. The fingerboard scoop lends versatility to the instrument. Playing over the scoop gives a warm, plunky tone, while playing near the bridge offers a tighter, brighter sound that will cut through the mix in a full-band context. This banjo is in excellent condition and comes with its original hardshell case.
