Details

Back in the 1980s, Santa Cruz was one of the first companies to reintroduce the versatile, classic Orchestra Model, taking elements of the old pre-war Martin OMs and refining them into something all their own. Sapele is a sustainable tonewood that is gaining popularity, not just for its beautiful, tight figuring but also for its tonal similarity to Honduran mahogany - that is to say, midrange focused, woody, and full-bodied. The top is Carpathian spruce, which sits just a notch below Adirondack on the stiffness scale. Though quite similar, it takes less time to open up and achieve a richer, played-in tone. In keeping with tradition, Adirondack bracing and hot hide glue construction further recreate that classic OM sound. This SCGC OM is like a souped up OM-18, and its powerful, woody voice is an excellent choice for the flatpicker who prefers a medium-sized guitar.
