Details

If there ever were a best of all worlds guitar, this OM Grand from Santa Cruz, sporting back and sides from "The Tree", may well be it. "The Tree" was a towering mahogany cut down in the mid-60s in Central America, and initially was used in crafting furniture and decorations. But by the 1980s, guitar makers had gotten their hands on sets of this rare wood and started building instruments out of it. Though at first appreciated visually for its incredible figuring - one might almost mistake it for master-grade quilted maple with a dark finish - players and builders alike soon were taken by its unique tone, which seemed to combine the clarity of mahogany with a healthy dose of rosewood-like complexity and lush overtones.

Inspired by Martin's 0000, Santa Cruz's OM Grand has an ever-so-slightly wider lower bout that still sits comfortably, especially combined with the slim 4-1/8" depth. The result is extra projection and bass, but with no less responsiveness for lighter pickers. A beautifully bearclawed European spruce top offers warmth and clarity, with plenty of headroom for digging in.

Though pre-owned, this 2018 model comes to us in excellent condition, structurally as well as cosmetically. Its original hard case is included.
