Details

Handmade in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Caleb Smith focuses on “wartime” style builds, utilizing traditional bracing styles in addition to Hot Hide Glue building techniques. Smith has been building guitars since 2008 and has built guitars for a handful of legendary pickers, such as Brian Sutton, Griff Martin, and Trey Hensley, as well as pop-country star Zac Brown. In addition to being a luthier, Caleb plays with the renowned bluegrass band, Balsam Range. Being both a player and a luthier, Smtih is able to fine-tune his builds to suit real-life playing situations. Caleb strives for a dry, balanced tone in each of his builds. To achieve this, he handcrafts and hand tunes each part of every guitar he makes. The classic pairing of an Adirondack Spruce top with Honduran Mahogany back and sides gives this D-18 an authoritative low end that never gets too muddy and highs that cut straight through the mix with volume and projection. Its soft V Mahogany neck, 1 23/32”, and 25.34” make it extremely comfortable and intuitive to play. These features, paired with its vintage-style appointments, capture the spirit and tones of the coveted “wartime” guitars of yesteryear.

This is a pre-owned instrument and it has its fair share of visible wear. For an in-hand description of this guitar, please feel free to contact us.
