Details
Massachusetts-based luthier Bill Tippin builds guitars that are inspired takes on traditional body sizes, and flourished with a unique, old-worldly aesthetic. He says of his Staccato model:
"Big things come in little packages. As a small body guitar with lines that echo those of the Crescendo [the flagship Tippin 000], the Staccato has a surprisingly rich tone with exceptional volume. The tone is well-balanced, with the singing qualities of a fine parlor guitar and a superb bass response."
A comfortable parlor for players of any size, this particular Staccato is a very special one. For the back and sides, Bill has used an African wood described as "rarer than diamonds": pink ivory. With a hue that looks a bit like a lighter, rosier mahogany, it has an unusual grain and figuring all its own. Paired with an Italian spruce top, it's tone is surprisingly well-rounded with a strong bass. Maple binding and a maple neck perfectly offset the body woods, and a necklace-style rosette with gem-quality Opal ensures this guitar truly lives up to its nickname. Further dressing it up, it sports an abalone backstrip and some of the most stunning inlay work we've seen. A flower winds its way from the fretboard onto the peghead overlay, and a few bright green leaves are scattered over the body. A gorgeous guitar in both looks and tone.
